In the end, it's just a car. But this car has some of my best memories with my father, who I called Papa. It's been some time since he passed away in September 2023, but I still have this car sitting in my father-in-law's driveway.

Back in the day, when I thought I would pursue fine art, my favorite kind of art to make was with found art. It's remained my favorite, and I've started to realize it's something I love to incorporate in my personal animation projects. Every texture in this animation was taken from images of his car. The typeface I created from the text on the license plate. His writing of his last name "Medina" was taken from his CD collection that he kept on him in the Navy. The graph paper just seemed fitting to take from his house, not only because of the technical writing on it, but it fits his personality. The bandana he would wear. He loved flowers. At one point he worked in a flower shop and we would go to gardens like Descanso and Huntington Library together, so I had my kid Ivy draw some flowers for me so she could be a part of this animation too. In many ways, she experienced him more as a father than I did.

But again, most of my good memories with my father were centered around cars. We changed the spark plugs together, converted the brakes together, and he would teach me the anatomy of the engine. He would take me to F1 races and use the engine displays there to teach me how the little explosions made the car go.

Growing up my favorite smell was the mix of cigarettes and old cars. My sister and I would sit on the cracked leather seats in the back and yell for him to zig-zag. After looking around for cops, he would zig-zag between lanes and we would laugh as we got thrown around in the back seat.

Anyways. I couldn't see myself getting rid of this car. I lived my whole life believing it would be mine one day. I was told my mom was in labor while he was off buying this car. BUT I can't imagine I would ever have enough extra money to get this car running. If anyone is in the market for an old '67 Ford Mustang Coupe (Not Shelby, sorryboutit) I might be casually ready to sell it possibly maybe 😅
